A Prelminary Study on the Characters of Bundle and Its Relation to the Grain Plumpness in Intersubspecific Hybrid Rice

The characters of bundle in intersubspecific hybrid rice (IHR) and its relation to the grain plumpness(GP) were studied by free hand section. The results were as follows. ①The number and transected area of bundle in both elongated internode and panicle neck of IHR were larger than those of intervariety hybrids and the latter were larger than those of conventional rice. The poor GP in IHR was mainly due to the over burdened capacity of spikelet number in the conducting tissue. ②Being the same as check bundle in the primary branch of the basi-panicle of IHR with poor GP was superior to that of the top-panicle, but the transected area of the phloem of each large bundle in the basi-panicle was smaller than that in the top-panicle ③The large bundle number in the lower elongated internode of IHR were more than that in the upper elongated one, being the same as intervariety hybrids, but reverse to conventional rice.
