Effect of Exogenous Betaine on Cold Resistance of Corn Seedlings

Huang Li-hua(Department of Biology,Zhaoqing University,Zhaoqing,526061,Guangdong,China)
The effect of glycine betaine(GB) on cold resistance of corn seedlings was studied. The results showed that GB could enhance the contents of proline and soluble protein, and raise the activity of antioxidative enzyme, also reduce the content of MDA,and decrease the relative conductivity. The cold resistence of corn seedling treated with 20mmol·L-1 of GB gave the best result. Therefore the resistance of seedlings to cold was improved by GB.
