Study on Introduction of Balsam Pear

QIAO Nai-ni,HUANG Bai-hong,LIANG Ji-hua (Changde Vocational and Technical College,Changde 415000,Hunan,China)  
The comparative experiment of 9 introduced balsam pear varieties was carried out in Changde Vocational and Technical College from 2008 to 2009 to select the balsam pear (Momordica charantia L.) variety suited for the local ecological environment and soil conditions.The result indicated: In introduction 9 balsam pear varieties, M.charantia cv.Lanshandabai and M.charantia cv.Zhuzhouchangbai had long growth period and high yield of about 56175 kg/hm2, and 52875 kg/hm2 respectively, but the resistance and soil compatibility were bad; the resistance of M.charantia cv.Huayu and M.charantia cv.Taiwanzhenzhudabai was medium and the output was 38 290 kg/hm2 and 30 195 kg/hm2 respectively.The variety of M.charantia cv.Jiangxidamazi was with high yield, disease-resistant, fine pulp, high content of vitamin C and protein, and suited for the processing of balsam pear juice.
