STUDIES ON C-BANDING PATTERNS IN THREE SPECIES OF PINUS ORIGINATED FROM CHINA

The present paper reports the trypsin-Giemsa C - banded karyotypes of three species of Pinus massoniana,P. tabulaeformis and P. taiwanensis from China. They possess 34,24,24intercalary C-bands and 18,20,20 centrometric C-bands respectively. Each chro-mosome arm has two intercalary C-bands at most. All the bands have the same shape,but different size. In the same mitotic cell,The distance from the intercalary band to the cen-tromere is equal on the chromosome arm which has one band only. The major differences in distribution of C-heterochromatin among the three species are that P. massoniana has one pair of chromosomes which do not possess any C-band while both P. tabalaeformis and P. taiwanensis have one C-band at least on each chromosome. Evolution of karyotypes of the three species is discussed bassed on the analysis of the C-banding patterns.
