Study on the Biological Characteristics and Occurrence Law of Monochamus Alternatus Hope in the Southwest Area of Hubei

Through the observation of Monochamus Alternatus Hope raised in the lab or trapped by baiting wood, the paper makes a research on their life characteristics, life cycle and their occurrence law in the west of Hubei. The study shows that the generation of Monochamus Alternatus Hope occurs in a year. The young lavae and old lavae live through the winter in their tunnel of the phloem and xylem respectively. In the middle of April of the next year they will pupate. The adult insect can be seen in the early or middle of May . It's the flourishing period of Monochamus Alternatus Hope energence from late May to late June. The lavae start to look for food in middle June and are in overwintering period in October. In the period of development, if temparature increases, the developing duration of all kinds of Monochamus Alternatus Hope can be contracted. What's more, if it is rainy and damp,the activities of adult insects and infectious illness of the larvae can be controlled. In the middle of the trunk, Monchamus Alternatus Hope is densely populated. Adult insects like to eat the flourishing branches and barks of trees and also like to lay eggs on the lying new-cut trees and the standing trees in a poor growth.It is effective to trap Monochamus Alternatus Hope by using baiting wood and trapping apparatus. In this way , it can provide the reliable base theoretically for controlling and forecasting Monochamus Alternatus Hope.
