Personality Type Analysis and Psychotherapy for Patients with Systemic Lupus Erytnematosus

Fourty cases of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE) were studied by Eysenck personality questionnaire(EPQ). The results showed that E_scales(Extroversion and introversion) in SLE patients were lower than of normal control group( P 0.05); N_scales(neuroticism) in SLE group were higher than those of normal control group( P 0.05); and L_scales in SLE group were significantly higher than those of normals( P 0.01). The SLE patients with unsteadiness account for 46.5 percent, two times more than those of normal control group. It was supposed that the personality types, such as introversion and unsteadiness probably related to the onset, duration and prognosis of the disease. Of the twenty SLE patients hospitalized and treated with conventional and psychological therapies, 12 had very good effects, 5 had some improvement, and 3 had not improved much, and ever one of them formed psychological resistance and failed in the treatment. It was conluded that the psychodiagnosis and psychotherapy were crucial and should pass through the entire course of the disease.
