Integrated CAD/CAPP/CAM System for GT Fixture Based on Feature Modelling

The GT fixture is a type of adjustable fixtures and it is used for a group of similar parts. This paper introduces an integrated CAD/CAPP/CAM system for GT (Group Technology) fixture based on feature modelling. The system consists of three subsystems for CAD,CAPP and NC programming separately. According to the shapes and functions the fixtures are classified, and the feature modelling data files are generated automatically. A program is designed to extract the CAPP input data and geometry data of a part from its feature modelling data. The NC tool paths of machining are generated on the basis of the coded process planning data (output from CAPP module) and geometry data (extracted from the feature modelling data).
