Numerical simulation and analysis of three-dimensional flow in a primary coolant pump

Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) was used to analyze the performance of a primary coolant pump.The pump was simulated to determine inner three-dimensional flow when working at high temperature and high pressure.The first step was to establish a geometric model of the pump,and for this a hexahedron structural mesh and tetrahedron non-structural mesh were used to mesh it.The three-dimensional flow of the primary coolant pump was solved using Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes(RANS) equations.The shear-stress transport(SST) model was adopted to simulate turbulent flow.Parameters such as power,lifting capacity and efficiency at high and low design rotating speeds were obtained.A comparison between the results of our calculations and experimental data shows that the error was less than 4%,proving it is feasible to simulate the complex flow in a primary coolant pump by the CFD method.
