ANALYSIS OF THE FREE VIBRATION OF ELASTIC THIN PLATES BY TRANSFER MATRIX METHOD

This paper presents a new method for analyzing the free vibration of elastic thin plates, simply supported on two opposite sides and having whatever boundary conditions on the two sides.By applying the transfer matrix method to the finite strip method the more simultaneous frequency equation is thus simplified to a two-frequency equation problem.For plates of variable thickness, curved plates or skew plates, calculation can be made with the aid of microcomputer.The presented method makes the natural frequency calculation simple and quick, gives results of high accuracy by the finite strip method, and is thus suitable for application in engineering practice.
