Effects of Mg(OH)_2 and MgO on rheological behavior of attapulgite clay water suspensions

ZHOU Jie, LIU Lan jun, LIU Ning, LIU Xun fen (School of Material Science and Engineering, Hefei University of Technology, Hefei 230009, China)  
With construction like a pile of firewood, attapulgite clay water suspensions show yield pseudoplastic fluid characters,conform to Casson model and have good thixotropy. Mg(OH) 2 and MgO, with positive charge and very fine size, can increase obviously the yield stress, viscosity and thixotropy of attapulgite suspensions.
