Comprehensive treatment of the overlaying slope with toppling deformation at the outlet of the Fuxi twin-arch tunnel

The rock mass of the overlaying slope at the outlet of the Fuxi tunnel in Tangkou-Tunxi Highway which is fragmental and under complex engineering geologic conditions is a large-scale highly weathered mass with toppling deformation.At the early stage of the outlet project,collapse occurred over large areas as a small amount of excavation work was carried out,so that tunnel construction would not be able to carry on if no effective engineering measures were taken.In view of the geologic conditions of the rock mass,comprehensive treatment measures are adopted,such as exerting counter-pressure at the foot of the slope,grouting the front slope,injecting concrete,and applying big steel-pipe-sheds.In-situ monitoring results indicate that the treatment measures are effective.
