Calculation and analysis of the maximum horizontal displacement of the pile head in the cantilever soldier pile retaining structure

The expression of the potential energy of the total cantilever soldier pile retaining system in rectangular excavation is established.Based on the principle of minimum potential energy,a new analytic solution to the maximum displacement of the pile head is derived.An orthogonal design test is carried out to study the main parameters of the retaining structure,and the influences of these parameters on the maximum horizontal displacement are obtained.It is concluded that the surcharge and"m"are the primary parameters which control the maximum horizontal displacement of the pile head.Other parameters,such as excavation length,have little influence on the maximum horizontal displacement of the pile head.A practical example is presented,and the calculated result is compared with the measured result and proved to be feasible.
