Treatment of chromium(VI) in water by bentonite-chitosan compound adsorbent

A compound adsorbent was prepared with the combination of chitosan and bentonite,its adsorptivity toward Cr(Ⅵ) was studied,and the optimal condition for the Cr(Ⅵ) adsorption by it was discussed in details.The results show that,the said compound adsorbent has good adsorptivity toward Cr(Ⅵ),the optimal condition for the adsorption process is: the pH value is 4-6,the mass concentration of Cr(Ⅵ) in wastewater does not exceed 10 mg/L,the adsorption equilibrium time is about 40 min,the dosage of the adsorbent is 8.0 g/L,the mass ratio of chitosan and bentonite is 0.04.Compared with the single bentonite or chitosan,the said adsorbent not only has a faster adsorption speed and a better adsorbability,but also has the advantages of low costs,broad application scope,etc.
