Influence of the geometric gap between a cylinder and a reinforcing pad on the Iocal stress under an axial thrusting action of nozzles.

An experimental investigation and a finite element analysis were conducted for the influence of the geometric gap between a cylinder and a reinforcing pad on the local stress in the reinforcing zone under an axial thrusting ac- tion of nozzles.The research was amining at two vessels with the same geometric sizes and the different geometric gaps between their cylindes and reinforcing pads.The re- sult showed that the stress in the horizontal section(θ=90 ~270°)of the cylinder was higher than the stress in the longitudinal section(θ=0~180°),and the size of the geo- metric gap between a cylinder and a reinforcing pad had not an evident influence on the stress of a cylinder,but the size could make the stress of a nozzle lower.
