Organic modification technics and gel performance of montmorillonite

QIU Jun,LU Xian-jun (College of Chemical and Environmental Engineering,SUST,Qingdao Shandong 266510,China)  
By means of slurry organic modification technics,the purified montmorillonite samples from Shandong province were organically modified by quatemary ammonium salt.The relationship between the key parameters including layer charge of montmorillonite and gel performance of organic montmorillonite was studied.The conclusions were as follows: the longer the carbon chain of quatemary ammonium salt,the better gel performance of organic montmorillonite;the lower the layer charge of montmorillonite,the better performance of organic montmorillonite;the dosage of 1831 modifier was 1.1~1.3 CEC,the reaction temperature was 70~80 ℃,the reaction time was 2.0 hours.
