Coupling Reaction of Formaldehyde and Methyl Formate over Zeolite Hβ Catalyst

Coupling of formaldehyde(FA) and methylformate(MF) on Zeolite Hβ catalyst was studied in a autoclave. Effects of reactants ratio, reaction temperature, reaction time, and catalyst dosage on yields of methyl glycollate(MG) and methyl methoxy acetate(MMAc)were investigated. Under optimal reaction conditions: n (formaldehyde):n(methylformate)=1:1.5, reaction temperature 150℃, reaction time 3h, mass fraction of Zeolite Hβ to formaldehyde 15 %, total yield of MG and MMAc was 56.84%. the catalyst can be recovered and reused for more than five times.
