Preparation and characterization of montmorillonite modified quaternary ammonium salts

Na-Montmorillonite(Na-MMT) was modified with different quaternary ammonium salts through ion-exchange method.Take dodecyl dimethyl benzyl ammonium chloride for example,optimal reactant condition of ion-exchanged reaction was as follows: reactant temperature was 60℃,reactant time was 6h,moral ratio of 1227/CEC was 1.5∶1.0.The exchanged ratio of 1227 was 82.65%.The exchanged ratio of other quaternary ammonium salts was more than 80% at the same condition and the exchanged ratio got to 99.75%.Meanwhile,the results of TG、XRD、FT-IR showed that different quaternary ammonium salts had been intercalated interlayer of montmorillonite and thermal stability of quaternary ammonium salts obviously improved.
