Study on the thermal decomposition of organic heat insulation materials

Thermal stability and flame retardancy of three organic heat insulation materials of extruded polystyrene board,rubber-plastic sponge and polyurethane,have been investigated through thermogravimetry(TG),oxygen index and oxygen bomb combustion heat.The results showed that rubber-plastic sponge and polyurethane had two thermal degradation stages and extruded polystyrene board just had one.In addition,combustibility index P of extruded polystyrene board and rubber-plastic sponge were found to be almost the same while polyurethane had a much higher one.Besides,the thermal degradation activation energy of polyurethane was found to be the lowest of the three materials.Results also suggested that,among them three,polyurethane possessed the worst flame retardant ability while rubber-plastic sponge was the best.
