On the Cognitive Analysis of Discourse From the Perspective of "Prominence''

YAN Wei;School of Humanities and Social Sciences,North University of China;
Discourse analysis,as a pattern of communication,involves a complex psychological process,during which the differences of cultural backgrounds and thinking modes between the readers and writers require that discourse analysis should not be just confined within the structural analysis in terms of such levels as lexicon,phrase or sentence,but should take the author's cognitive perspective into consideration."Prominence'',one of the typical construal factors,could be applied into discourse analysis hierarchically.Firstly,the construal factor could be applied to analyze an author's mental liability in the process of selecting words and the attitude in describing things.Secondly,with regard to sentence analysis,the forming of syntactic structure could reflect an author's anticipations for readers' perception of the main information.Thirdly,the"prominence''factor could be further employed to explore the unusual ways for organizing information with the purpose of underlining certain meanings.
