Culture of Porphyridium cruentum was carried out in a 42 L novel photobioreactor. The results showed that carbon sources light intensity and liquid circulation velocity couldaffect the growth of cells evidently. Under appropriate culture, the cells not only tolerance theirradiance of high light intensity, but also grow faster. A higher growth rate of 0.925 d--1 andbiomass production rate of 42.31g/(m2.d) was obtained when CO2 was used as only carbonsource.
