Preparation and Characterization ofα-FeOOH /α-Fe_2O_3 Nanoparticles

α-FeOOH/α-Fe2O3 nanoparticles were prepared in our laboratory using homogeneous precipitation, ammonia titration and surfactant ammonia titration methods. The products were characterized through modern technique of TEM, XRD, FTIR. Moreover, the catalysts usingα-FeOOH/α-Fe2O3 nanoparticle as active ingredient were tested by the microreactor-chromatography assessing apparatus at the ambient pressure in the temperature range from 25~60℃ with the space velocity of 10000 h-1. The results show that the three methods are feasible to prepare nanoparticles with an average particle diameter of less than 100 nm, but with different morphologies. The ammonia titration method can produce nanoparticles consisting ofα-FeOOH phase only, but the products from other two methods are mixture ofα-FeOOH andα-Fe2O3. The nanoparticle-based catalyst is found highly active for COS hydrolysis at low temperature under high space velocity, and H2S is also removed at the same time.
