Attenuation of Light Intensity and Its Effect on Cell Growth in Anabeana sp. PCC 7120 Culture

The changes of light intensity with cell density and optical length in the liquid culture of Anabeana sp. PCC 7120 were investigated. Based on experimental results, the light attenuation could be described by I = I0exp[-(0.0131+0.987OD750)L]. The effects of stable and variable lighting on the growth of cell in a 15 L airlift photobioreactor were examined. The results show that the program of light intensity has a strong effect on the growth of microalgae. The doubling time under different conditions was compared.
