Numerical Simulation of Electromagnetic Stirring Flow of Metal Pad in Aluminum Reduction Cells

The standard κ-ε model and low Reynolds number Jones-Launder κ-ε model were adopted to simulate the flow field of metal melt in three aluminum reduction cells with different anode risers. Comparing the results of measurements, the standard κ-ε model is more appropriate than the low Reynolds number Jones-Launder κ-ε model. The quantitatively calculated results of Hartman number, Reynolds number and the turbulent Reynolds number show that Hartman number expresses well the function that electromagnetic force inhibits turbulence of metal melt motion.
