Research on centrifugal model experiment for concrete-faced cemented-rockfill dam

In order to understand the work behavior of a concrete-faced cementedrockfill dam in completion and water storage periods,the stress and deformation of the dam with different contents of cement were studied using a centrifugal model experiment,and the experimental results were compared with those of the nonlinear finite element method.The results show that the dam settlement and slab deflection in the completion and water storage periods obviously decrease with the increase of cement content,so the stress conditions of the concrete face ensuring that the impervious system works smoothly are improved.The shear strength and bearing capacity of the dam increase with cement content,so the dam slope can be designed to be steeper,reducing the size of the dam section and economizing the building materials.The stress and displacement of the dam and the normal displacement of the concrete face in the completion and water storage periods obtained by the centrifugal model experiment are in good agreement with those of the numerical model.These results can provide a useful reference for designing concrete-faced cemented-rockfill dams.
