Translation of Poetry Approached by the Principle of“Beauty”——A Review of X.Y.Z.'s Translation of Grief beyond Belief

DAI Cai-hong (School of Foreign Languages,Yangzhou University,Yangzhou 225009,China)
This paper makes a detailed analysis of the poem Grief beyond Belief (sheng sheng man) trans- lated by Professor Xu Yuanzhong (X.Y.Z.) to reveal his translation principles of“Three Beauties”.As is shown by the author, the English translation succeeds in converting the beauty of implicitness of the origi- nal into that of exactness and plainness and changing the SL static beauty into that of dynamic synaesthesia with rhythmical beauty. It concludes on such a basis that the appreciation of poem translation needs to be approached by an aesthetic eye so that we can rectify the prejudices of poem translation.
