A SURVEY ON THE MICROBIAL DEGRADATION OF SYNTHETIC ORGANIC COMPOUNDS

The microbial degradation of organic compounds is a very important subject in predicting their performances in environments and developing efficient biotreatment technologies.In this article, a brief introduction was given on the methods in studying the biodegradation of organic compounds, as well as relation between molecular structures and biodegradabilities,and the proposed degrada-tive pathways. The biodegradabilities and metabolic pathways of benzene and alkylbenzene, aromatics acids and their esters, phenols, chlorinated aromatic compounds, and nitrogen aromatic compounds were also summarized.
