KINETIC STUDIES ON THE EXTRACTION OF PHENOL WITH EMULSION-TYPE LIQUID MEMBRANE

The kinetics of extraction of phenol from aqueous solution with emulsion-type liquid membrane containing bibutanediimide (surfactant) -kerosene as membrane phase and aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide as inner-aqueous phase has been investigated. The effect of components of outer-aqueous phase, inner-aqueous phase and membrane phase, stirring speed and temperature on the extraction rate were examined. The regularity of the extraction rate of phenol has been obtained. In experimental conditions the extraction rate of phenol may be controlled by diffusion process and the diffusion resistance exists mainly in the outer-aqueous phase. The diffusion step of phenol from outer-aqueous phase to the interface between outer-aqueous phase and membrane phase might be controlling step.

4 Ji Jianguo,Zhou Zuming (Fudan University) Mao Jiajun (Tongji University) The kinetics of extraction of thorium from nitric acid solution by petroleum sulfoxides (PSO) in kerosene has been investigated using Lewis cell technique. The extraction rate were found to be pseudo-first order with respect to the concentration of thorium. The influence of the nitric acid concentration in aqueous phase, the PSO concentration in organic phase, the temperature and the stirring speed of Lewis cell on the pseudo-first order extraction rate constant has been measured.
