STUDY ON THE AMMIONIA REMOVAL FROM WATER USING REMODELED CLINOPTILOLITE

The adsorption behavior of remodeled clinoptilolite to ammonium was studied in this paper.The effect of pH values,ammonium concentrations and competing cations were considered in the experiment.Furthermore,the kinetic characteristics of the zeolite was also investigated.The results indicated that the higher saturation adsorption capacity of clinoptilolite was achieved when the saturated sodium chloride was used to pretreat the zeolite.The adsorption behavior of the Na-pretreated zeolite deviated at Y NH + 4=0.5 due to the effect of ammonium concentration and pH values.The existence of competing cations restrained the ammonium in Na-pretreated zeolite was diffusion in particle and could be described by Vermeulen model.
