ABSORPTION AND ACCUMULATION OF HEAVY METALS BY FOREST PLANTS IN THE OUTSKIRTS OF NANJING CITY

The research was carried out in the outskirts of Nanjing city.The aim was to understand the absorption and accumulation of heavy metals(Cr,Cu,Ni,Pb,Zn) by Quercus acutissima and Cunninghamia lanceolata.The results showed that,the content of the 5 heavy metals in forest litter was higher than tree,shrub and grass.Because of the bigger biomass,most of the heavy metals were stored in the tree layer of forest ecosystem,and the storage of heavy metals in Quercus acutissima was more than Cunninghamia lanceolata.The enrichment coefficient of Cunninghamia lanceolata was larger than Quercus acutissima,which indicated that Cunninghamia lanceolata had stronger potential ability of absorbing heavy metals.Whereas,according to the absorption coefficient,return coefficient and circulation periods,the net quantity of absorbed heavy metals by Quercus acutissima was larger than Cunninghamia lanceolata,Therefore,the enrichment coefficient can not be used alone to evaluated the heavy metal absorption capability of the plants.Rather,other factors such as the biomass,age of tree and the biomass of annual return should also be taken into account.
