Study on nitrogen transition behavior in high-temperature aerobic composting of sewage sludge

Studies on nitrogen transition behavior of high-temperature aerobic composting of sewage sludge were reported in this paper. The results showed that temperature and NH + 4-N content were two parameters, which significantly affected nitrification. Nitrification was restrained at an average temperature beyond 40 ℃ during primary fermentation. At the end of secondary fermentation, nitrification was slowed down with the reduction of NH + 4-N content. The amounts of nitrogen loss were different under different conditions or by using different conditioners. By adding mature compost as a conditioner to sludge, we could get less nitrogen loss. Nitrogen loss reduction could also be achieved to some extent by reducing temperature and content of volitile matter or adding more water to raw material.
