Control of cyanobacterial bloom with effective microorganisms

The appearance of cyanobacterial bloom(CB) has increased at a growing rate both in China and in the world,and how to control the pollution of CB is a key and problematic project in the field of environmental science.Here the effect of adding the indigenous bacterial agent of effective microorganisms(EM),which were isolated and cultured in laboratory,for the control of CB in the floating enclosures in Guishui Lake,Yanqing county of Beijing,during the summer period of July and August in 2008,were investigated.Compared with that of control,more than 70%of floating CB biomass could be reduced continuously,and the concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water of floating enclosures might also be quickly reduced by added EM,which was responsible for the continuous decreasing of CB biomass in the experimental enclosures.Using the bacterial agents of EM is very important in both basic research and application for the control of CB in lakes.
