Study on properties and volatile revolving kiln treatment technologies of sewage sludges from steel wire rope industry

Disposal and reuse of the sludge containing heavy metals usually meet technical difficulties up to now,much more in industrialized recovery.The components and characteristics of the sludge produced in the effluent treatment of steel wire rope production in Nantong City were investigated and compared with those of the common types of sludge containing heavy metals in this paper.The results showed that the combustion characteristics of this sludge with high ash content and low heat output was similar to that of electroplating sludge.The main chemical components were Pb,Zn and Fe,and their contents were 0.42%~0.58%,1.11%~5.33% and 20.4%~31.1%,respectively,which were very close to those of steel plant slag used as raw material in zinc oxide production.The process of volatile revolving kiln was proposed as the disposal technology of this sludge,and the industrialized test was conducted.The results indicated that the process employed in concentrated disposal of all the sludge in the region was feasible for the recovery of heavy metals from this sludge.By using this process at the rate of 18%,this sludge mixed with steel plant slag,there was no effects on the quality of product,ZnO.The contents of Pb and Zn in the kiln slag were very low so that high harmless degree was acquired.The results of this study would provide a new way for the safe disposal and reuse of sludge containing heavy metals.
