iosorption of heavy metals using residues from fermentation industries and ocean microorganisms has been suggested as a method to effectively treat metalcontaining wastewater.Compared with conventional methods,biosorption offers certain advantages,such as abundant and inexpensive biomass source,low capital investment,low operation costs and high efficiency of treatment etc.Biosorption as a viable technology for disposal of heavy metal pollution was widely studied overseas.In this paper,the concept and the mechanism of biosorption,the properties of biosorbent and immobilization of biosorbent were reviewed.The tendency to the development of biosorption of heavy metal and the prospect of its application were also elucidated.
