Study of the Transformation Rate of SO2 and Aerosol Formation in the Ambient Air of Guangzhou City

An environmental chamber study of SO2 reaction was conducted in Guangzhou city to understand some processes in acidic precipitation and the source of some small particles. The results of the chamber experiments demonstrate that some important factors affecting the transformation rate of SO2 are the initial concentration of SO2, the intensity of sunlight the relative humidity(R.H.), and particles in the polluted air. The transformation rate of SO2 was strongly related to the peak concentration of condensation nuclei counter(CNC). The main source of air pollution of small particles in that region is the transformation of SO2 to sulfate aerosol.
