Plasma-induced Decomposition of Nitrogen Oxides in a Dielectric- Barrier Discharge Reactor

The non thermal plasma induced decomposition of NO in N 2 in a dielectric barrier discharge reactor with γ Al 2O 3 pellet bed was investigated.The effects onto the NO decomposition of the following experimental factors were systematically examined:electrical discharge voltage(9~16kV),the frequency of the electric power supply(50~1600Hz),NO concentration in the reactant gas(50~1800ml/m 3),gas space velocity(1000~6500h -1 ),reaction temperature(20~250℃)as well as the specific surface area of the γ Al 2O 3 and the addition of O 2.It was found that raising the discharge voltage and the frequency of the electrical power supply as well as the specific surface area of γ Al 2O 3 pellets can enhance the NO decomposition efficiency.Addition of O 2 into the reactant gas dramatically inhibits the NO decomposition.
