Water insoluble crosslinkedchitosan was prepared by crosslinking soluble chitosan with epichlorodydrin and carboxylcontaining grafted chitosan polymer was obtained by grafting acrylonitrile onto the crosslinkedchitosan with ferrous sulfatehydrogen peroxide as the initiator and finally by subjecting it to basing saponification, whose structure was confirmed by elemental analysis,FTIR spectra analysis and Xray diffraction analysis. The adsorption properties for Cu2+、Cr3+、Cd2+ and Pb2+ were studied also.It could be seen that the content of nitrogen in CTCA is lower than that in CTS and CCTS,and the characteristic peak of —COONa appeares at 1570cm-1 and 1470cm-1 in CTCA.It was also found that CCTS and CTCA have the characteristic peak of pyranylibration at 900cm-1 which demonstrats that the ring of pyanyl is not destroyed in the reaction of crosslinking and grafting. The adsorption experimental results showed that CTCA has good adsorption capacities for Pb2+ and Cd2+;the adsorption speed of CTCA for Cd2+ is higher than that of Cu2+ and the adsorption capacities are also affected by the acidity of medium. The chelate mechanism was investigated by FTIR spectra analysis and the XPS data of CTCA and CTCACu2+.
