Advanced treatment of effluents from sewage secondary treatment plant by membrane-biological activated carbon technology at low temperature

The feasibility and mechanism of advanced treatment effluents sampled from a secondary treatment plant of sewage in Beijing by membrane-biological activated carbon technology at low temperature were studied. It was found that the removal of organic compounds was quite effective at a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 3 h, with 33%,35% , 40% and 15% COD_ Cr,UV_ 254, UV_ 410 and ammonia removals, respectively, In comparison with the conventional biological activated carbon process, it was considered that the process developed in this work has distinct advantages such as the synergistic effects of membrane separation, activated carbon adsorption and biological degradation.
