Effect of short-term reclaimed water irrigation on morphology and distribution of heavy metals in soil

Batch soil column experiments was conducted to study the effects of reclaimed water irrigation on pH,electrical conductivity(EC),organic material(OM),CaCO3 levels of soil;the variation of morphology,distribution and stability of heavy metals(Zn,Cd,Cu,As) in soil during reclaimed water irrigation were also discussed in the paper.Compared with the groundwater irrigation,reclaimed water irrigation increased the OM of surface layer soil from 0.06%(mass ratio) to 0.32%,while decreased CaCO3 content by 52.7%;pH value of surface layer soil exhibited a 0.4 unit decrease,EC was increased by 255%.It was concluded that the application of reclaimed water could slightly increase the total concentration of Zn,Cd,Cu and As in the surface layer and change the stable fraction of heavy metals soil into readily labile ones.Therefore,this reason may limit the application of wastewater recycled for agricultural irrigation.
