A 4 year microplot locating experiment was made to study the absorption and effect of cleaning up of ramie plants (B.nivea (L).Graud) on soil Cd. Results showed that the relationship between biomass of the upper ground part of ramie (YB) and Cd content of the soil could be described by the logarithmic model of logYB=3.387394—0.075316(logS c) 2, and the relationship among the amount of Cd accumulation by the upper ground part of ramie(T) and the content of soil Cd and biomass of the upper ground part of ramie was fitted exactly by the model of TA=2.997417-0.055673Sc+0.000125S c·Y B. Based on these two models, a forecast model of the time(T) needed for cleaning up soil Cd by ramie plants was conducted: T=5495.57+31.62Sci-470.96TAi-1-1.675Sci·TAi-1. Forecasting result showed that 21—91 years would be needed for reducting each 1 mg/kg of soil Cd by the absorpting of ramie plants. It is obvious that the feasibility of biological measure for cleaning up soil Cd is open to question.
