Study of Icariin Affect on Learning and Memory in Senescence Accelerated Mouse Prone/8(SAMP8)

Objective:To study the effect of ICA on learning and memory for senescence accelerated mouse prone/8(SAMP8).Methods:10 eight-month-old SAMR1 and 50 the same age SAMP8 were selected. and SAMP8 were divided randomly into 5 groups(model,the donepezil,and ICA50mg/kg,100mg/kg,200mg/kg group),Then,the effects of icariin administration by oral gavage for one month on learning and memory in SAMP8 and SAMR1 have been investigated by the Morris water maze test,SMG-2water maze test and Step down test.Results:Compared with the former administration,after administration of the rapid aging mice SAMP8 place navigation and spatial search capability,as well as reactive capacity is improved.Conclusion:ICA could improve the learning and memory ability of SAMP8.
