Fluorimetric determination of microamount gold(Ⅲ) with 8-aminoquinoline-5-azo-phenol

Suo Jian et al. (Department of Chemistrv, Yunnan University, Kunming)  
The optimal conditions for the method are investigated. 8-aminoquinoline-5-azo-phenol reacts with Au (Ⅲ)in a dilute medium of HCl, forming a compound that can be extracted into CHCl3.The extract shows intense fluorescence at λex/λem (345 nm/421 nm).The fluorescence intensity is directly proportional to Au(Ⅲ) concentration in 0-3.5 μg/4ml CHCl3. The detection limit is 2.5 ppb for Au(Ⅲ).The method has been applied to the fluorescence determination of microamount Au(Ⅲ) in some ores.
