Carbonaceous matter in carbonaceous gold ores: its materialcomposition and interaction with gold

In this paper, the carbonaceous matter in gold ores of Jinya GoldMine, Guangxi, China was studied .The methods for effectively separating carbonaceous materials from the ores were sought out.It was found that the carbonaceous matters in the ores consisted of (i)elemental carbon, predominantly actiyated carbon. (ii) humic acids, (iii) long-chain esters of a mixture of long-chainseters and alkanes. The experimental results indicated that the carbonaceousmatters resulting in "preg robbing" was activated carbon first, humic acidssecond, while long-chain esters or alkanes seemed having nothing to do withit.In short, it was weak that the gold was adsorbed by carbonaceous matter inJinya gold ores.The main reason for the ores difficult to be treated was notethe"preg robbing"of gold but was probably that the gold was disseminated finly and locked in sulphide minerals.
