High-speed Impact Tests of Composite Panels Under Prestressing

In order to reveal the real impact resistance of aircraft composite structures, the impact behavior and damage of composite panels under prestressing are studied. A kind of in-plane tension and compression loading device was designed, and a kind of high-speed impact test method for prestressed composite structures was proposed. High-speed impact tests for X850/IM+ composite panels were conducted. The results show that in-plane prestress has a significant influence on the impact response. Compared with non-prestressed impact result, the inplane pre-compression reduces the structural bending stiffness and relieves the lateral impact load, resulting in a decrease of the residual speed and an increase of the ballistic velocity, while the in-plane pretension on the contrary.
