SEPARATED FLOWS OVER MAIN ELEMENT AND FLAP OF MULTIELEMENT AIRFOIL AT HIGH ANGLES OF ATTACK

Li Xiaowei, Qiao Zhide (Northwestern Polytechnical University, Xi′an, 710072)
The present approach is based on the Reynold averaged Navier Stokes equations. The Johnson King turbulence model which is sophisticated for a large range of separated flow such as the flow over multielement is implemented, and the Chimera grid technique which can yield a high quality grid accessible for efficient solution scheme is adopted. Attention is concentrated on the computation of confluent boundary layers and viscous wake interactions using Johnson King turbulence model to get a better understanding of the structure of the complex viscous flow and better prediction of the aerodynamic characteristics of multielement airfoils . The numerical computation results of GA(W) 1 airfoil with 30% flap agree well with the experiment.
