Experimental Study on Behavior of Concrete Square-Columns Confined by Carbon Fiber Sheet under Axial Compression

Axial compression resistance performance of concrete square-columns confined by carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) sheets under axial compression was studied,with consideration of mayor factors affecting confinement of concrete such as: affix methods,amounts of CFRP,and space between fiber strips.The study focused on analysis of failure configuration,bearing capacity,axial stress-strain curve.The results showed that axial compressive strength and deformability are improved efficiently by using CFRP to strengthen concrete columns,the confining effect of whole section reinforcement is better than fiber strips reinforcement;with increase of reinforcement rate,peak stress,peak strain,limit stress and limit strain are all improved and decline of axial stress-strain curve is more smooth.
