Discussion on training of head nurses from results of their performance appraisal

Objective Investigating performance appraisal of the head nurses to find some bases in their training.Methods 53 head nurses were evaluated by using self-rating and other-rating methods with performance appraisal questionnaire.Results Nurses' developmental factor got the lowest score compared to other factors. Score of self-rating was lower than that of other-rating. Head nurses working more than 5 years got the higher score than those of working less than 5 years.Conclusions Measures such as training and reinforcing management should be taken to improve the management skill of the head nurses. Performance appraisal should be combined with the results of clinical practice assessment.
