The function of crisis intervention center in treating serious patients with mental disorders

Objective To guarantee nursing safety of acute and serious mental patients,improve the quality of medical treatment and nursing service,and prevent the occurrence of accidents.Method A crisis intervention center was established,which was responsible for the treatment of serious mental patients in the whole hospital and for the emergency treatment before they were transferred to hospital.Nursing staff in the center were trained in specialty knowledge and techniques.Moreover,the safety management regulations were established and strictly carried out according to the characteristics of mental patients.Results One year later,the patients accidents reduced from 64 times per year to 13 times per year (u=6.04,P0.01).The injured patients who were attacked by other patients were reduced from 21 times per year to 4 times per year (u=3.40,P0.01).The injured medical personnel were reduced from 8 times per year to 1 times per year (u=2.33,P0.05).Conclusion Intensive treating and nursing for serious mental patients could effectively prevent various unexpected injuries due to patients' aggressive behaviors,ensure the safety of patients and medical staff and improve the quality of nursing.
