CHEN Xi(Department of Chinese,Sun Yan-set University,Guangzhou 510275,China)
This paper attempts to reinterpret and discriminate the content and features of Wang Yao's A Draft on the History of New Chinese Literature from the perspective of reflections on the politicalization of modern Chinese literature. It is opined that the book is a mixture of politics and academic discourse despite its pioneering endeavor, because on one hand Wang Yao has striven to integrate numerous universal language of the age and has followed consciously the principles and methods for history narration in mainstay discourse while he has,on the other hand, tried to open up academic space in the sphere of politics and to undertake arduous academic studies so as to establish unique academic norms for new literature.Wang Yao's academic choice and political aspiration are the need of the age and the necessity for political and cultural development.
