Preparation of Platinum Nanoparicles in W/O Microemulsion System

Zhang Li_juan Gu Guo_bang Shao Qing_hui (College of Chemical Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou 510640, China)  
Nanoscale Platinum particles were prepared in a W/O microemulsion system with composition of TritonX_100/n_C 5H 11 OH(weight ratio 1∶1)/C 6H 12 /H 2O. TEM images showed that the average particle diameter was 10 nm. The effects of some preparation conditions, such as surfactants categories, the molar ratio of water and surfactant( x 0), concentration of platinum acid, reductants and surfactants on the particle size, were investigated. It was shown that the particle size are positively proportional to x 0 and concentration of H 2PtCl 6, while it was little affected by concentration of surfactants, pH and reductants especially when the reductant concentration reached a saturated level.
