Numerical Evaluation of Spatial Structure of Suspended Bio-Carriers

Suspended bio-carriers are important functional materials for the moving-bed bio-film reactor.In order to evaluate and optimize the spatial structure of suspended bio-carriers,the internal fluid dynamic characteristics of the moving-bed bio-film reactor loaded with suspended bio-carriers are analyzed via the dynamic numerical simulation coupling the dynamic mesh model with the two-phase flow model.Calculated results show that the coupled simu-lation technology helps to describe in detail the movement of suspended bio-carriers in the moving-bed bio-film reactor,and to obtain the quantitative distributions of the flow parameters such as pressure,velocity and gas holdup at each moment.The feasibility of applying the gas holdup and surface shear stress to the evaluation of the spatial structure of suspended bio-carriers is finally discussed.
